Masterfully forged Japanese garden tools for every gardener’s craft.
Inspired by a deep curiosity for Japan's rich gardening tradition, Jake Hobson, founder of Niwaki, spent time in rural Osaka along with his wife Keiko learning the art of tree training, pruning and rootballing where his love for the craft and tools used evolved. Inspired by the tripod ladder he used in Japan, Jake shipped a few to the UK to use, here the business began. The name Niwaki, meaning 'garden trees,' reflects the brand's dedication to creating beautifully crafted tools for every garden, each made from durable materials expertly forged by artisans across Japan. What everyone starts to appreciate is that although these things are all Japanese, they work just as well in western gardens, and on a whole range of plants.
When Jake and Keiko are not hiding out down in Dorset UK, or galavanting around the country in their Keswick green 130 Defender's, they are putting together this range of good stuff for us garden lovers for daily use, that they are proud of.

In 1996 Jake went to Japan as a wannabe sculptor, to investigate the cultural phenomenon of the cherry blossom season, hanami. There he discovers the gardens, and the trees, and vows to learn more.

Combining Japanese blacksmithing traditions with contemporary design they inspire gardeners and makers everywhere to make the most of life

Owner Jake and his family use the whole range of tools themselves. Keiko in the house with garden scissors for cut flowers and Grandpa reaching for his trusty pruning saw when he wanders off to reap havoc in the woodland.
