Description
We are proud to present a collection of Scott's one-of-a-kind vessels. Each piece is crafted by hand, and Scott's practice of mixing his own clay, shaping on Leach-style kickwheels, and wood firing creates pottery that honours the irregularities in natural materials and manual processes.
This elegant hanging vase is made with coarse iron rich clay from Whakatu Nelson. Scott hand-built this vase then coated with white clay slip and glazed with ash glaze. Decorated with daubs of iron and manganese pigments and finished with an incised maker's mark at the base.
A wire loop is fixed to the back to hook straight on your wall.

Handcrafted pottery blending Japanese, Korean, and European traditions.
Scott Brough is a potter and musician based in Heretaunga Hastings. Born in England, he has roots in the storied ceramics region of Stoke-on-Trent. His passion for pottery ignited at 18 during evening classes with Seymour May in Turanganui-a-Kiwa Gisborne, and deepened through his partner Yasmin Dubrau’s collection of woodfired Japanese pottery. After earning the Otago Polytechnic Diploma of Ceramics, he apprenticed with renowned potter Masakazu Kusakabe in Japan’s Fukushima prefecture.
Scott mixes his own clay, shapes his work on Leach-style kickwheels, and fires it in a gas kiln or during group woodfirings. His practice is influenced by Japanese, Korean, and pre-industrial European techniques, honouring the irregularities in natural materials and manual processes.
