Kate Pilot is a New Zealand designer whose practice spans film, interiors, furniture and objects. With a background in film, Kate spent twelve years working in props and set dressing, collaborating with artists, makers and craftspeople. She later moved into interior design, creating spaces informed by the people who inhabit them. Her longstanding interest in making and collecting has naturally extended her practice into furniture and object design, exploring the relationship between materials, form and everyday use. Her first collection, Pupuri, brings this approach to a series of sculptural wooden objects designed to hold and keep small personal treasures.

The Pupuri Dishes are turned from a single solid piece of timber, with the bowl and lid spun together so the natural grain flows continuously from lid to base.

Each Pupuri piece is hand-turned in Aotearoa New Zealand from reclaimed native timber, giving new purpose to pōhutukawa, pūriri and black maire.

Each Ring Cone is weighted with steel and finished with an individually numbered engraved brass base. Made in limited editions of just nine pieces per size, each carries the individual grain, tone and markings of the reclaimed timber.
