Description
The Pōhutukawa Dish with Lid is a handcrafted wooden jewellery dish, made in Aotearoa New Zealand from recycled native pōhutukawa and ebonised to a deep, dark finish.
Part of Kate Pilot’s Pūpuri Collection, each dish is turned from a single solid piece of timber, with the bowl and lid spun together. Keep it closed to hold earrings, necklaces and rings, or lift the lid to use the bowl and lid separately.
Designed to work together with the Pūpuri Ring Cones, the opening in the lid slides over a cone to create a raised stand, allowing the pieces within the collection to be stacked and arranged in different ways.
Hand-turned from reclaimed pōhutukawa and produced as a limited edition of just six individually numbered pieces, each dish carries its own individual grain, tone and markings, so no two are the same.

Kate Pilot is a New Zealand designer whose practice spans film, interiors, furniture and objects. With a background in film, Kate spent twelve years working in props and set dressing, collaborating with artists, makers and craftspeople. She later moved into interior design, creating spaces informed by the people who inhabit them. Her longstanding interest in making and collecting has naturally extended her practice into furniture and object design, exploring the relationship between materials, form and everyday use. Her first collection, Pupuri, brings this approach to a series of sculptural wooden objects designed to hold and keep small personal treasures.
