Description
Woven in Portugal from fine merino wool, the Vintage 1974 blanket draws directly from archived patterns found in Burel Factory’s historic design books. Produced on 19th century looms and finished by hand, it carries forward a language of pattern shaped over time.
The fabric is milled to create a dense, felted surface, giving the wool its characteristic warmth and durability. The pattern holds a sense of continuity, linking past production to the present.
A piece that sits within a longer history of wool making in the Serra da Estrela mountains.

Wool shaped through time, process and place.
Burel Factory is a Portuguese textile house based in the Serra da Estrela mountain range, dedicated to preserving the craft and culture of wool. Working from a restored 19th century factory in Manteigas, the workshop continues a lineage of weaving shaped by generations of makers and deep regional knowledge.
Rooted in the rhythms of the land, the process begins with raw wool sourced from local flocks. The fibres are opened, carded, spun and woven on historic looms, before being milled through heat and water to create burel, a dense wool fabric known for its strength, warmth and durability.
Bringing together heritage machinery and contemporary design, Burel Factory carries this tradition forward through colour, form and application. Each piece reflects a commitment to slow production, material integrity and the enduring value of making.
