Description
Woven in Portugal from 100% merino wool, the Gathering blanket is produced at Burel Factory using traditional looms and hand-finishing techniques passed down through generations.
The wool is opened, carded, spun and woven before being milled to create a compact, insulating cloth. Durable and breathable, the material reflects the practical origins of burel as a fabric designed for protection in the mountain climate.
Generous in scale, the piece speaks to the communal nature of wool, shared, layered, and used over time.

Wool shaped through time, process and place.
Burel Factory is a Portuguese textile house based in the Serra da Estrela mountain range, dedicated to preserving the craft and culture of wool. Working from a restored 19th century factory in Manteigas, the workshop continues a lineage of weaving shaped by generations of makers and deep regional knowledge.
Rooted in the rhythms of the land, the process begins with raw wool sourced from local flocks. The fibres are opened, carded, spun and woven on historic looms, before being milled through heat and water to create burel, a dense wool fabric known for its strength, warmth and durability.
Bringing together heritage machinery and contemporary design, Burel Factory carries this tradition forward through colour, form and application. Each piece reflects a commitment to slow production, material integrity and the enduring value of making.
