Description

CERES No.2 is a hand-built stoneware incense burner developed between Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand and Lund, Sweden. Formed through an ongoing exchange between Yamila Palatnik and Pilo Marimón, both originally from Argentina, each piece carries the imprint of that distance, shaped slowly through dialogue, testing and handwork.

The name echoes seres the Spanish translation of 'beings' and nods to the dwarf plant between Mars and Jupiter, used as a marker of distance. The figures hold their own presence, with faces and forms that emerge through making.

Made in Lund using German stoneware clay and fired at 1230°C, each piece is numbered as part of a small first edition of 17. Left entirely unglazed, the surface retains the full character of the clay, with variations in tone and texture.

Designed for use, the piece becomes complete through the act of burning incense inside and allowing the smoke to breathe out of the CERES mouth.

Presented in a hand-stamped box, accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and edition number.

CERES is a series of hand-built stoneware incense burners developed between Aotearoa, New Zealand and Lund, Sweden.

CERES began in 2024 as an ongoing collaboration between Yamila Palatnik and Pilo Marimón, two Argentine makers working across distance, time zones and shared rhythms of making. The forms developed through sketches and exchange, evolving through dialogue, testing and refinement before being built by hand in stoneware in Lund.

Yamila leads the design and art direction from Auckland, while Pilo fabricates the ceramic pieces in Sweden. Rather than standardisation, the process allows variation to remain visible, with differences in surface and proportion held from piece to piece.

Each form has a figurative presence and invites different readings, without being fixed to a single meaning. Hand-built, stamped and numbered as part of a short edition, each piece is fully functional and intended for use.
