Description
Consciously craft-forward, the production of this artisanal quilt is meticulous and stratified.
Reversible, featuring a different print design on each side and made by hand over many months from block-printed percale cotton with natural cotton fill. Each quilt is hand-stitched using a traditional unknotted running-stitch technique.
The Acadia quilt features a gridded pattern with a cream background interwoven with hues of teal and clay. This generous size quilt is designed for queen or king beds, offering warmth and texture, layering sleeping spaces with a gentle tactility.
Collection IV is a response to the rich history of American overshot weaving, an art form known for its intricate geometric patterns and cultural significance. In this collection, I’ve taken the core elements of overshot coverlets—bold geometry, structure, and contrast—and distilled them into a modern visual language through block printing.
Overshot coverlets, traditionally woven by hand in early American homes, were functional yet expressive. The geometric patterns, often simple yet striking, represented the creativity of weavers working with limited means. In Collection IV, these forms are reimagined in a series of block prints that emphasize their timeless, graphic quality.
This collection isn’t a reproduction of history, but a reinterpretation. By translating woven structures into print, I shift the focus to pure form and color. The bright, vivid palette contrasts with the historic muted tones of traditional coverlets, bringing new life to these geometric patterns. What once provided warmth and comfort now becomes a statement of modern simplicity and boldness.
The intention behind Collection IV is to create textiles that feel rooted in tradition but are undeniably contemporary. The result is a body of work that celebrates the beauty of geometry, the power of color, and the legacy of American textile craftsmanship, all while offering a fresh, minimal take on heritage, Josie Ford.
