Description
Echoing the rounded elegance of ancient Etruscan Bucchero ware, this Pyxis lidded bowl features an organic, oval form with a domed lid and pointed finial. Hand-thrown from a smooth, slightly burgundy-red mid-fired stoneware clay and finished with a satin matte black glaze, each piece is stamped with a makers mark at the base.
Its sculptural shape makes it perfect for storing jewellery, treasured keepsakes, or food items, while also serving as a refined decorative object.
Included in the exclusive Blackware collection created in collaboration with Dryburgh Pottery, this piece is one of many exceptional forms — from amphoras and pitchers to lidded vessels, serving bowls, plates, chalices, and more — designed for collectors and admirers of timeless pottery traditions.

Contemporary Ceramics Inspired by Nature and Architecture.
Kirsten Dryburgh is a seasoned ceramicist based in Aotearoa with over 25 years of experience spanning pottery, floristry, and sculpture. A graduate of Elam School of Fine Arts, she draws inspiration from classical design and urban architecture, reinterpreting traditional forms into contemporary, story-rich ceramics.
Working from her Grey Lynn studio, Kirsten uses locally sourced and imported stoneware clays, with glazes influenced by Auckland’s volcanic geology—incorporating natural elements like rocks, sand, and mineral-rich waters. Her pieces blend functional and sculptural forms, crafted through wheel throwing, press moulding, slab construction, and hand-building techniques.
Each work reflects Kirsten’s deep respect for materiality and the timeless beauty of handmade craft. Explore her collection for unique ceramics designed for everyday use and artistic display.
